Those music sites that have an extensive selection of free music downloads are very popular with music fanatics. The sad thing is that downloads for most of the popular music is not free. They require purchase though some sites should allow trial periods or limited time but still in the end they would require subscription for access. This music site started in 2005 and based in Luxembourg. It is accessible in some languages. The music available for download is free and licensed through the Creative Commons and Free Art licenses. There are more than 32,000 albums for download.
Free Music Archive
This music site was launched in April 2009. This site was made possible by the Jersey City radio station WFMU but there are other people involved as curators for the music inventory. It has more than 22,000 songs that can be downloaded for free.
Dogmazic
This is one of free downloadable music sites and based in France. The site was made in 2004 with about 2,000 artists on the archive.
Internet Archive’s Audio Archive
This is site is with the Internet Archive project which collects files of internet content to be used by researchers and the general public. The Audio Archive not only includes music but audio books, news broadcasts and old time radio shows. There are 50,000 recordings of music that can be downloaded for free.
CC Mixter
Another of the free downloadable music sites worth mentioning is CC Mixter. This is a social music site which encourages remixing to create a new music. There is a library of over 10,000 samples that can be downloaded without obligation. The site also contains tools for remixing.
